Jussie Smollett was convicted of staging a fake hate crime

Sharing is caring!

Jussie Smollett is not yet fixed on his sentence, but he now knows that the jury finds him guilty of several charges.

In Chicago yesterday, December 9, justice put an end to a legal procedure which lasted two years. This procedure, which was mainly implicated, Jussie Smollet recognized the actor who played a role in Empire as guilty of five counts of disturbing public order and this for having claimed to be the victim of a hate crime in January 2019.

Reminders of the facts

The gay actor claimed in January 2019 that he was the victim of a physical attack by two men. This attack according to the actor was due to his status as a black and gay man. He had claimed that his attackers had hurled racial and homophobic slurs at him.

The wave of protests that followed led to the arrest of the actor who sets himself up as a victim. He had been pinned for disturbing public order. His arrest, while he surrendered to authorities, resulted in legal proceedings with 16 charges. The gay 2Pac and its lawyers pleaded not guilty to all counts in March 2019.

The version of the legal authorities

According to CNN, the legal authorities continue to look at the situation from another angle. They claimed and maintained that the actor faked the entire scenario of his attack. For prosecutors, Smollett had paid brother brothers Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo to carry out a hate crime attack. This setting in scene against the actor was intended to attract the attention and to expose the actor in the media in order to obtain the love of all. An abuse of sensitivity that the Chicago legal system intends to make the actor pay for. While awaiting sentence delivery, the cops also spoke through Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. He understood the deception and said at the time that Smollett staged the attack because he was unhappy with his salary. “” I hang over my head and wonder why. Why would anyone, especially an African American, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could anyone look at the hatred and suffering associated with this symbol.  “. The policeman had insisted on the man’s ingratitude. ”  How can an individual who has been kissed by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city for making this false statement?” False police reports cause real harm. “

The verdict pending the delivery of the sentence

Although he was acquitted of one count of disturbing public order, Smollettwas convicted of making a false police report, stating that he was the victim of both a hate crime and bodily harm, to Officer Muhammad Baig as well as to Detective Kimberly Murray. His false testimony is seen as an obstacle to legal proceedings and he risks a lot in this case. He will also have to be concerned because on the other public disturbance counts, Smollett will have to hope for leniency from Cook County Judge James Linn. The public disorder charge is a Class 4 felony and carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a fine of $ 25,000. The judge will have the option of imposing a concurrent or consecutive sentence at the sentencing hearing.

Reactions at the end of the verdict

Most surprisingly, Jussie Smollett’s reaction as the judge released the verdict. The convicted defendant remained motionless and kept his eyes locked in a gaze, fingers intertwined in his hands on the table. He didn’t look at his family, the judge, or anyone besides the jury. Should we fear for their safety? The police will have to watch the grains on this side.
