Lil Nas X reveals that Drake and Nicki Minaj refused to participate in Montero

As numerous and virulent as his detractors may be, Lil Nas X remains an undisputed force in the hip-hop industry. His album Montero has dominated the charts and with each new release, the rapper mobilizes a strong attention. If his escapades on social networks, and his choices in terms of creation generally cause controversy, the fact remains that the rapper is an artist in great demand by his peers.

Most artists claim to collaborate with Lil Nas X

Lil Nas X was named one of GQ’s Men of the Year, and in his cover story the rapper was asked about his album’s characteristics. It is clear from his responses that while the album featured collaborations with artists such as Elton John, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow , Miley Cyrus and Megan Thee Stallion , the rapper was particularly targeting two collaborations that did not come to fruition.

If it were up to Nas X, Drake and Nicki Minaj would be on Montero

“I’m not in the habit of asking for features like that. But for every feature I asked for on this album, every one of them worked… except Drake and Nicki [Minaj], ” he told GQ. The audience was surprised to learn that Nas X reached out and was rejected.

“I didn’t ask them directly. I wanted Nicki on ‘Industry Baby’, and I wanted Drake on ‘Dolla Sign Slime’, with Megan [Thee Stallion], ” the rapper added. “Industry Baby” was of course given to Harlow. “Yeah, but you know, I feel like things are always working out. Jack Harlow ended up being, like, the better option. I’m not sure Nicki would have felt comfortable with this video or anything. ”

Last September, Lil Nas X said Minaj refused to respond to her request. Despite being a longtime Nicki fan, Lil Nas denies being a “Barb” since at the time, he had not yet come out.
