Megan Thee Stallion wins AMA Hip-Hop Album of the Year award ahead of Drake, Pop Smoke, and more

Sharing is caring!

It was on Twitter that Megan Thee Stallion announced her decision not to participate in the ceremony. Speaking to fans days after releasing her compilation album Something for the Hotties , she wrote that while very excited to perform at AMAs with BTS, she couldn’t attend due to a ”  unexpected personal affair ” . She added that she was very “sad” about it and that she hoped to catch up and perform with the group “very soon”.

Nevertheless, despite her absence, Megan Thee Stallion received by proxy a number of trophies which will be presented to her in the coming weeks. One of the accolades given to her is the Hip-Hop Album of the Year award, which she won for her album Good News in front of Drake’s Certified Lover Boy , Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon by Pop Smoke, Legends Never Die by Juice WRLD and SoulFly by Rod Wave.

A contested choice

In addition to this accolade, Megan also received the award for favorite female hip-hop artist, but it was her victory in the category of hip-hop albums that made social media jumpers. Indeed, many rap fans have claimed that Good News may not be the best choice for this category, and while it seems that a lot of these reactions are tinged with misogyny, some believe that Drake or Pop Smoke would also have been good contenders for this award. However, since this is a selection determined by fan vote, it is believed that the results expressed general opinion.
