The murder conviction stems from Tay’s involvement in a 2016 shooting that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. The man responsible for the shooting was sentenced to life in prison last year. The 19-year-old rapper was 16 when the shooting took place, but was tried as an adult nonetheless. In November 2019, the rapper was charged with a second murder for shooting 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar in a 2017 robbery at a Chick-fil-A parking lot in San Antonio. After the jury in charge of his case deliberated for three hours, the artist was ordered to pay a fine of 10,000 dollars and serve 55 years behind bars. He risked between 5 and 99 years in prison.

During the debates, the clip for his track The Rac e was shown to jurors as evidence, along with a copy of the lyrics. at the request of prosecutors. It is not known whether The Race , which came out while Tay-K was on the run, was a factor in the decision.

Tay K asks for a new lawyer

Currently incarcerated in the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas, Tay-K has enlisted the help of his fans, asking for a lawyer to help him appeal his conviction.

“I need a new lawyer on appeal,” wrote the artist from Santana World, who was indicted on capital murder charges in November 2019. In the wake of Kyle Rittenhouse’s surprising acquittal, after the strong mobilization of Kim Kardashian. Tay-K compared their two cases on social media, and reached out to Kim Kardashian for her help in raising awareness about her case. For now, the reality TV star has not responded to the struggling rapper.

In prison, but not safe from trouble

Although he has kept a low profile since his incarceration in 2019, rumors began to circulate in 2020 that his sentence had been extended, following an assault on the prison guard. But Tay’s legal team quickly denied the claims. “All of the rumors of TAYMOR’s sentence extension are false,” they wrote on Tay-K’s Twitter. “  TAY HAS STAYED OUT OF PROBLEMS AND THE MEDIA IS ALWAYS FIGHTING HIM TO DESCRIBE A FALSE STORY. THE CALLS CONTINUE AND TAY WILL BE AT HOME #FREETAYK SOON. “

The rapper had previously spoken out about the media’s misrepresentation of him and his crimes, and criticized his management for saying he shouldn’t oppose it.

”  I want to apologize to all my fans and supporters for letting my management and my label convince me that it would not be a good decision to speak out against the way the media makes me look and the complete lies that they spread, “ he declared in November 2019. ” But I will make sure that the truth about my life and my person triumphs, with or without management or label. And those who don’t like it, fuck you. “
