Travis Scott has officially spoken in his first interview since the Astroworld festival tragedy, in which a mob movement left ten dead and hundreds injured. As lawsuits mount against him, festival organizers and other performers , the Houston-born rapper has remained silent. Today morning, he spoke with Charlamagne Tha God of The Breakfast Club to discuss the tragedy.
Seeking forgiveness, Travis Scott speaks to his fans and to all those far and near witnessed the tragedy
In the opening moments of the fifty-minute interview, Travis Scott tells Charlamagne that for the past few days he’s been feeling a roller coaster of emotions. “ I’ve been through different kinds of emotions, an emotional roller coaster, I mean, ” Travis said. “ It gets so hard because, you know, I always feel connected with my fans. I went through something and I feel like the fans went through something too and the parents of the victims went through something. And it really hurts. It hurts the community, it hurts the city. There were a lot of thoughts, a lot of feelings, a lot of grieving, and I just tried to wrap my head around it. ”
Charlamagne then asked the rapper what his intention was with this interview , to which Travis replied that he had no intention per se other than communicating with the audience. ” I have no personal intention, I just feel like something has happened and I feel like it’s right, I needed a way to communicate, you know? ” he said. “ First, the families are in mourning. There are fans who have been through something, there are fans who have come to the show. I have always been that person who goes after things with people who share experiences with me. It was such a time and I was just trying to figure it out. ”
The author of ” Rodeo ” says he was reluctant to do the interview because of the lawsuits he faces, but says it has “nothing to do”. ” You are an artist, you are the one that people think you are at the end of the day, you are a human being and you have emotions, you want to communicate those emotions and try to find the best way to communicate “, he confided. The rapper says he faced the consequences of the festival by taking time for himself, but realizes that “no one will be” his voice and that he needed to speak out.
Does he regret his first apology video?
The day after the concert tragedy, Travis took to social media to speak to his fans. “ I am absolutely devastated by what happened last night ,” he said in a statement on Twitter. “ My prayers go out to the families and everyone affected by what happened at the Astroworld festival. The Houston Police have my full support as they continue to investigate this tragic loss of life. I am committed to working with the Houston community to heal and support families in need. Thanks to the Houston Police, Fire Department and NRG Park for their immediate response and support. I love you all ”.
He then posted a moving video in which he sends prayers to those who died at the show . When asked what state of mind he was in when he posted the video, Travis told Charlamagne: “ It must have been the same night, so I was just in a state of mind where I was trying to communicate with my fans. I literally had no information. So I was just trying to understand and communicate with them. I reacted to give something to my fans, to the people who came. ”
Moreover, during the interview, Charlamagne also asked him if he regretted having posted the video without having all the information. The Houston-born rapper later responded to the question that was put to him, saying, “ I mean, yeah, because you know, you just don’t know what’s going on. But at the end of the day, I just wanted to get something out… I can only go by what I know. But my real intentions were really to try and get a message across. ”
