This year has witnessed the rise of Yung Bleu, and the rapper continues to make progress. The rising star from Alabama took home the Best New Artist award at the BET Soul Train Awards.
The rapper is on the rise
The 2021 Soul Train Awards , held at the famed Apollo Theater in New York’s Harlem neighborhood, marked the 50th anniversary of the influential “Soul Train” show. The show was taped on November 20 and aired Sunday nights on BET.
With his victory, Yung Bleu thus becomes the first artist since Chance Th e Rapper in 2016 to obtain the prizes of “Best new hip-hop artist” and “Best new artist” at the BET Hip-Hop Awards and at the BET Soul Train Awards la same year.
Accepting the award for Best New Artist, he said he still hasn’t gotten used to speaking on the catwalks at awards ceremonies. “ My heart always beats fast when I’m up there ,” he said. “ But I just want everyone here to know that I am so honored to be a part of such a historic event and a historic legacy. The Soul Train Awards, you know, I’ve grown up watching them all my life. I’m shaking about it right now because I was so young and watching all these great artists win that kind of award and just, you know, explode and just see it for myself is such a blessing. Thank God, thank you to my fans, I want to shout out to my whole town, Mobile, Alabama. “
The victory comes on top of a string of celebrations, including the rapper’s first Grammy nomination after being recognized for his contribution to HER’s album Back of My Mind. In addition, Yung Bleu made his national television debut on The Kelly Clarkson Show, where he stepped in for an interview and performed a potpourri of hits.
Besides last month, Yung Bleu released a new music video for his track Unforgiving , with Davido . A video produced by Dammy Twitch and filmed in Lagos, Nigeria. In the video, Bleu grows up and falls in love with her childhood friend and shares a common love for space. He ends up surprising her with a spaceship he built with his own hands.
